Dixie - The Hazelton Family

Dixie was a one year old Border collie mix following a lady on horseback along the side of the road. Only, Dixie didn’t belong to the rider. So, the lady on horseback returned her to her owner. Five minutes later, there she was, that little black and white dog following her again, as she headed toward a busy road. But then she saw the owner drive by, so she asked her if she came to get her dog back, the reply was “Are you kidding!? I’m late for work!” Dixie then went to a shelter thinking her owner would pick her up soon. One year later, Dixie was finally posted on the website for the shelter. She was posted on the site at the same time we were seriously looking for a dog. We were interested, so we went up to see her. We all fell in love with her, including my dad, nicknamed “Mr. We don’t need a dog.” We have had her for 6 years now, and she is loved to pieces. She enjoys riding in the car, going on long walks, eating and just hanging out with the family. She also enjoys helping my mom teach her piano lessons. The second someone starts playing, she will run in, and lie down by the piano to listen. She will groan if the student messes up, and will even leave the room if the student is extraordinarily bad. We just found out this summer that she has a tumor of the thymus gland, and we are not sure how much longer we will have her, but I will cherish every moment of that time.

I Love you, Dixie!
