  • Description:
    • AIUCA was founded in 1990 to offer assistance to persons with disabilities and/or social handicaps through the training/placement of appropriate animals and through the training and evaluation of suitable human-animal teams to be employed in Animal Assisted Activity/Therapy/Education programs. Since it's founding, AIUCA has actively promoted and worked in AAA/AAT/AAE. In particular, AIUCA has struggled to introduce the idea of the Pet Partner team in programs of AAA/AAT/AAE instead of the idea of an "animal co-therapist" that should be trained and placed in a program "alone". We believe in the importance of the role of Pet Partners, their preparation and evaluation in order to ensure quality and safety in AAA/AAT/AAE programs and to guarantee what we believe to be one of the most important roles of the human Pet Partner - to guarantee the well being of the animal partner at all times. Since 2000, we have organized and taught Pet Partner training and Pet Partner evaluations through out Italy, in Austria, and in the Ne-therlands with students from these 3 countries plus Belgium, Germany, and Spain. Currently, we hold small classes of 8-10 persons approximately every 40 days in which we include simulations and observation of registered Pet Partners involved in AAA/AAT/AAE programmes. Pet Partner Evaluations are held approximately every 2 months all through the year and we evaluate all domestic species. For a list of courses, see the NEWS page of our web site or the Course and event schedule of the Delta Society web site. We hold classes and evaluations in other locations upon request. AIUCA Pet Partners have experience in working with:
